The Artist
1988 Hue Vietnam
Le Nguyen Lam Van graduated from the Hue College of Art in 2010 and then went on in 2012–2014 to get her Master’s degree of Visual Arts at Mahasarakham University in Thailand. When Van returned to Hue she worked as a graphic designer and participated in several printmaking workshops and exhibitions in Vietnam and Thailand.
Van is an innovative artist, always seeking new ways to use materials and unusual concepts. Her series Lost in Dreams is a very unusual body of work she made when she was a student, wherein she poured all her innocent emotion.
This mixed technique material she utilized as a new medium, creating her own process. First she took many plastic bags and ironed them together layer by layer until the desired thickness was achieved. For color she used powdered color or water color and mixed it with glue so that the paper remains soft and could be rolled.

The artist states, “This work expresses a young girl’s dreams… a girl who has many dreams, who thinks that life is pink, everything is so good, so perfect… until she leaves her family, then everything changes.”
