Lê Tuấn Anh
The Artist
1962 Hanoi Vietnam
Le Tuan Anh graduated from the Vietnam Fine Arts University in 1984 and slowly and meticulously began to work on a body of work that has evolved over the years from works on paper to lacquer and other mixed media but his themes are consistently the beauty of the pastoral countryside and his Buddhist practice. Tuan Anh is a close and trusted friend of the Salon Natasha gallery and he worked closely with Natasha and Vu Dan Tan all throughout the years of the gallery’s active life.
He had his first solo exhibition at Salon Natasha in 1995. The works exhibited related predominantly to Buddhist themes as they still do to this day. They are produced with a special technique invented by the artist; he used natural pigments mixed with the mother-pearl powder on crumpled traditional “Do paper”. Tuan Anh continued to exhibit at Salon Natasha in addition to showing at national exhibition halls in Hanoi and internationally in China and the Soviet Union.
Reflection 1997
A mixed media work on paper that was shown in Tuan Anh’s exhibition in 1997 at Salon Natasha. A work of abstract elements created in relief form by crushing the Do paper and adding mother of pearl powder to the pigments to give the work an iridescent glow.
