Đinh Công Đạt
The Artist
Today Dat is one of the most widely recognized and experimental Vietnamese sculptors, always going beyond the realm of expectation into a unique space blending imagination and reality. The artist says “For the past 30 years of working and living with art, I have been enchanted with the beauty of little and ordinary things. For me, art is the affections, the ordinary things that surround us in our everyday life.”
Dinh Cong Dat’s philosophy throughout his artist career: art does not have to be serious; it is about the process of exploration; appreciating the small and commonplace things and elevating them to consciousness through his artistic practice.
Dinh Cong Dat was born in Hanoi in 1966. He attended Vietnam Fine Arts University in Hanoi from 1989–1994, graduating in 1994 with a B.A. in sculpture. Dat has participated in many international residency programs including the prestigious Cave residency program in New York City, Art Omi NY, Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, Vermont. Dat’s work has been widely exhibited within Vietnam and internationally in China, Dubai, France, Japan, Korea, The United Kingdom, and the USA.
