Quan Ho 1997

This charming work of gouache on paper, Quan Ho 1997, was created for his solo exhibition of Quan Ho paintings in 1998. Quan Ho is a style of Vietnamese folk music originating in the 13th century in Bac Ninh, a province in Northern Vietnam known as the seat of culture for the North. Groups of male and female singers challenge and respond in playful songs with themes of love and sentimentality and has traditionally been associated with the spring festivals that follow the celebration of Tet, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year.

Quan Ho was recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage practice in 2009.
