While his works are undoubtedly influenced by his time abroad, as Thanh himself mused, “There are no exaggerated differences between the East and the West, because man has been the same since the dawn of time, regardless of the place. Otherwise, how would we be able to coexist?”
A very spiritual man, his works have become his expressions of meditation on the human condition. His works have been exhibited worldwide and within Vietnam he is considered a national treasure.
Le Cong Thanh is one of Vietnam’s most revered sculptors, graduating from the Fine Arts College of Vietnam in the 1957–62 class and then continuing his studies in sculpture at the Moscow Fine Arts College 1968–1970. He returned to Vietnam and had his first individual show in Hanoi in 1992. The artist was active all his life exhibiting in Vietnam and internationally.
