Lê Thanh Minh
The Artist
1956 Hanoi Vietnam
After three years of training at the Vietnam Fine Arts University in Hanoi, Minh spent 5 years in Moscow, studying and graduating from its prestigious arts institute. He had one-man and group exhibitions in Paris 1983, Berlin 1984, St. Petersburg 1987 and Moscow 1993. He returned to Vietnam in the mid 90’s and continued to exhibit locally and internationally.
Le Thanh Minh’s paintings are informed by an Eastern sense of aesthetics with clear influences of philosophy, Buddhism and a sense of humanity; what it means to be human in today’s world, seeking balance and harmony with the natural world.
Dispersed Rice 1996
A poignant work that depicts a Vietnamese child, seemingly caught in the confusion and displacement as Vietnam connects with the outside world. Struggling to be united with the world as the society of many forgotten souls are dispersed to the winds.
