Nguyễn Mạnh Thắng

The Artist

Hanoi Vietnam

Thang’s generation was the first to be greatly influenced by their access to the internet and the consequent exposure to global art. Thang graduated from the Vietnam Fine Arts University in Hanoi, exhibited in his early days after graduation in the early 90’s and then turned his attention to graphic arts. He excelled in graphic arts and designed the catalog for the exhibition Art Vietnam Gallery mounted in London in 2003, entitled The Ten Courts of the Kings of Hell, Vietnam Past and Present.

Old Friends I and II 1998

In these two works of gouache on Do paper, influence of Chinese contemporary art can be found juxtaposed with elements of traditional Vietnam, such as the ancient cloud motif in these works.
